Deformity correction surgery: a contrast of resource rich vs resource poor environments
Most of us are accustomed to having the equipment we need to take care of our trauma patients – imaging, sophisticated implants, external fixation and even vascular repair. This is in stark contrast to developing regions where surgeons often achieve outstanding results using far less sophisticated equipment. We will discuss the differences in these two situations and the particular challenges facing surgeons in resource poor environments, for both acute trauma, as well as late presenting traumatic deformity. We anticipate several interesting case presentations and vigorous audience participation.
